The Green Star Lake Series
The novels follow the lives of Jimmy and Theresa, two First Nations teens who struggle with many of the challenges young people face as they strive to fulfill their dreams of a better life.
Jimmy, the Green Star Lake rebel, is drawn to a life of adventure, risk, and high speed excitement on his powerful snowmobile. He often rides the edge of danger and illegal activities. Theresa, Jimmy's former girlfriend, is concentrating on finishing her high school away from Green Star Lake and caring for her and Jimmy's one-year-old son, Chance. She begins a new relationship with a young man who complicates her life. Jimmy and Theresa's once strong connection continues to be tested, and they question whether they can recapture the close feelings they used to have for each other.
Although the stories are fiction, they reflect the author's experiences as an educator in First Nations schools in Manitoba and Quebec, (Cree and Algonquin). Robert's goal in writing this series is to offer stories of high interest to young people—stories that are particularly relevant to the lives of Aboriginal students.
